Glass Shelf Buying Guide
How to order glass shelves that are strong, safe and beautiful — thickness, edge finishes, brackets and loading.
How to Measure
Measure the depth (front to back) and length of the shelf in millimetres. For corner shelves, give both leg lengths. Keep depth under 250mm for best support.
Choosing Thickness
6mm suits light display shelves. 10mm is the standard for bookshelves and bathroom shelves. 12mm is recommended for heavy loads and wider spans.
Glass Types
Clear float is standard. Low-iron gives a bright, edge-lit look. Frosted is ideal for bathroom shelves. Bronze and grey add a designer tone.
Edge Finishes
Flat polished is clean and safe. Beveled adds a decorative edge. Pencil polished gives a rounded, soft feel for handled shelves.
Brackets & Support
Use solid brass brackets every 400–500mm. For floating shelves, use heavy-duty concealed brackets rated for the glass weight plus load. We supply matching brackets.
Loading & Safety
Toughened glass is recommended for shelves holding heavy items. Never exceed the bracket rating. Keep shelves level to avoid stress concentrations.
